The benefits and uses of Plantain Leaf (Plantago)

Plantain is cooling and is good for hot conditions such as redness, sharp pain, swelling, inflammation, or simply feeling overheated. Burns are obvious example of hot condition as the burned areas feels warm to touch and turns red. A red, hot, itchy rash is another example. A fresh plantain poultice can soothe burns and rashes bu both pulling out the heat and healing the damaged tissue.

It heals bites, stings and wounds. Best result, apply a plantain leaf poultice as quickly as possible after the sting and leave it on for 20 minutes.

Plantain promotes skin healing and is great for scrape wounds and has ability to draw splinters. IT is antimicrobial, so it helps to prevent infections.

It also can heal the mucous membranes of the digestive tract and can be a powerful healer for gut problems such as leaky gut, ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases. Plantain leaf tea is the best remedy for gut issues.

Dry, hacking cough that is painful that is treated with plantain as well. It moistens the lungs and soothes the irritation caused by the cough.

Preparations:

food, oil, poultice, salve, tincture, vinegar


Healing digestive tea


1/2 cup finely crumbled dried plantain leaves

1/2 cup dried calendula flowers

1/4 cup dried rode petals

1 tablespoonfinely crumbled mallow or marhnallow leaves

1 teaspoon fennel seeds

3 cups water


Boil the water and pour over the herbs. Stir and let infuse for 30 minutes. Strain and drink within 24 hours.
